Massotherapy
A massage is the ultimate in pampering—and its many health benefits make it a therapeutic choice too.
Massage Types
Swedish massage uses a sequence of techniques that work the muscles and joints. Swedish massage is a versatile form of massage with multiple benefits. First and foremost, it relaxes and
tones muscles. It also boosts lymphatic and blood circulation and eliminates toxins. This technique can be used for therapeutic results or relaxation. The massage therapist will tailor the rhythm and depth of the massage to meet the client’s needs. Swedish massage relaxes the body and the spirit. An especially calming massage, it is prized for its ability to reduce the effects of stress. Swedish massage consists of a sequence of fixed techniques, both firm and gentle, that the massage therapist adapts and personalizes according to the needs or desires of the receiver. In case of pain, the therapist works the affected areas more in depth. The treatment ends with gentle massage and the client will be encouraged to take a period of time to rest.

Deep tissue massage uses techniques similar to those of Swedish massage but with more pressure and cross-grain muscle fibre work, focusing on the fascia and structure of deeper muscle tissue layers. A robust massage that is meant to break up muscular adhesions and stubborn, chronic knots, deep tissue massage is a smart choice for those engaged in sports and athletic training who have accumulated stress tensions or post-injury recovery facilitation needs. Deep tissue works out accumulated toxins by loosening muscle tissue, facilitating proper blood and oxygen circulation throughout the body and faster healing. Deep tissue massage is more intense than Swedish massage but more powerful in effect. While it’s normal to feel this intensity in areas being worked on, it’s not normal to feel bad pain and open communication with your massage therapist is encouraged in order to ensure the right depth of pressure for your specific needs. Expect to “feel” the massage for up to 48 hours afterwards, similar to the feeling of training hard at the gym. In general, the post-massage sensation is described as “being
looser” and “unwound”.

Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle procedure. The goal is to stimulate the lymphatic system all over the body. This technique strengthens the immune system and purifies the body of toxins. Lymphatic drainage stimulates weak lymphatic circulation. It is recommended for people who experience heavy legs, or who have weak legs, or whose blood circulation is not optimal (for example, spider veins, cellulite and even stretch marks). This treatment should also be considered in order to achieve certain aesthetic results, such as reducing dark circles under the eyes.

The foot is divided into zones with over 7,000 nerve endings. Each zone corresponds to a part of the body. Based on the same principles as acupressure, reflexology uses the body’s resources to repair imbalances and stimulate self-healing. Reflexology fights stress and eliminates toxins and acidity. With reflexology massage, applying pressure on specific zones, we reach corresponding organs—from where we get the name ‘reflexology’. An efficient circulation stimulator (energetic, blood and nervous systems), this massage reinforces the immune system. Reflexology is generally very relaxing, but it can be slightly uncomfortable in certain areas, depending on the health of the organs. Reflexology can be practised on the feet, hands or ears. Ancient Chinese techniques are a great way to maintain good health.

This manual method is part of a holistic approach. Using gentle techniques and pressure, this therapy is done on the head and all along the torso to the sacrum. The goal is, first and foremost, to rebalance the cerebrospinal fluid that passes through the spinal cord, from the head to the sacrum. This therapy helps, among other things, to eliminate negative emotions lodged in cellular memory, relieving pain, stress, fatigue, and even headaches and migraines. The therapist does not use oil, so the client stays dressed.

Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of aromatic plant extracts, also known as essential oils. Essential oils can be diffused and inhaled; applied to the skin directly or mixed into creams, lotions or massage oils; or ingested with foods. Diffusion and external application are the safest and most frequently used methods. An essential oil is a concentrated and aromatic liquid obtained from a plant by steam distillation, mechanical extraction or dry distillation. The quality of the distillation process plays an important role in the composition of the essential oil. The composition changes with the plant’s biochemical properties-namely, the time and place of its harvesting. The type of plant an essential oil comes from determines its health benefits. Using oils in conjunction with massage therapy increases a treatment’s efficacy. Essential oils are used in physiology to relieve muscle, joint and rheumatic pain due to their analgesic, antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties; they are also used in the psychological field to reduce the effects of stress and anxiety due to their calming and anxiolytic properties. Essential oils are also used to treat skin and respiratory issues, as well as vascular, digestive and nervous system conditions.

Hot stone massage draws from many classic massage techniques like Swedish, Californian and Shiatsu massages. Its uniqueness lies in the precise placement of warmed stones on the body and the
rolling of these stones on the skin. We use Basalt stones, that are formed from cooled magma, giving them their great capacity to retain heat. The stones used for this massage come out of a water bath maintained at a constant, warm temperature. For the massage, the stones are placed on specific parts of the body according to the client’s morphology or specific needs. The stones can be used as a massage tool to smooth or rub the skin. The warmth radiating from these stones makes this massage a unique and comforting sensorial experience
